The delightful bird on the cover of this picture book titled Roly-Poly-Egg is named Splotch. He looks like he was painted by a child and could be easily recreated by even the youngest child. The cover is only the beginning of a great story written and illustrated by Kali Stileman. One day Splotch laid an egg. It was very spotty and absolutely perfect in every way. She is so excited she jumps on the branch and the egg rolled down. The reader can follow the egg with a dotted line that runs throughout the book. The egg meets all these wonderful animals that are just as equally illlustrated as Splotch. It safely makes it back to Splotch's tree. But then, the egg goes Crack! Crack! Crack! The reader is in for a big surprise ending.
There is a great Roly Ploy Eggs Activity posted here.
